About The Militarist

India’s Independent Voice on Defence Strategy, National Security, and Geopolitics.

What Is The Militarist?

The Militarist is India’s independent publication on defence strategy, military technology, and national security. We write for Indians who believe the country’s security cannot be outsourced, delayed, or left to someone else’s goodwill.

We cover the decisions, the systems, the industries, and the geopolitical forces that determine whether India can defend itself on its own terms. We do not publish government press releases repackaged as analysis. We do not cheerlead for procurement decisions because they are Indian. We do not treat complexity as a reason to avoid taking positions.

What We Cover

Strategy

India’s strategic environment, doctrine, and the geopolitical forces shaping its security decisions.

Technology

Weapons systems, defence R&D, military technology, and the gap between what India has and what it needs.

Industry

The defence startup ecosystem, procurement policy, private sector manufacturing, and the business of building India’s military capability.

Analysis

Deep dives, long-form investigations, and guest contributions from experts across the defence and security space.

Our Editorial Position

The Militarist believes India’s strategic situation demands urgency. We are surrounded by hostile powers, dependent on foreign suppliers for the majority of our defence equipment, and operating a defence research establishment that moves at a pace inconsistent with the threats we face. We say this not as criticism but as diagnosis. The first step toward fixing a problem is being honest about it.

We are not aligned with any political party, government, or defence contractor. Our analysis follows the evidence. Our positions are our own.

Who We Are

The Militarist is edited and written by an independent editorial team. We write without personal attribution to ensure our analysis is never shaped by individual career considerations, institutional affiliations, or the social pressures that come with putting your name on positions that powerful people would prefer not to read.

We believe good defence journalism requires independence above all else. That is what we are building.
